We began this frigid morning by pulling a truckload of timbers up a mountain with a tractor. But the Vermont snowscape at the house site was worth the climb. Then the mortise and tenon joints of the first two walls slid together beautifully—nothing to it!
By nightfall we had those walls finished and stacked on the deck, ready for the frame raising the next day. Then we packed up, taking a little of the sunset’s glow down the mountain with us for the night.
