We are a company of craftspeople. For 32 years we have designed and built beautiful, custom, timber frame structures. As a family business shaped by two generations of leadership, we have employed a group of timber framers year-round for more than thirty years. We also have designers, office staff, and a management team. We are committed to our people.
Our full in-house design capacity allows us to design our work from scratch. At other times we are active and effective partners with architects, contractors, and engineers to provide the right building for each client.
Our roots are in traditional mortise and tenon joinery. Much of our work draws on the traditional forms of the cape, saltbox, and colonial. We also do more contemporary work, including classic and modern lake and mountain styles, free span trusses of 40’ and more, soaring great rooms, and curved timber arches. Some of our buildings are institutional or commercial structures. We welcome the challenge of special projects, large or small.
The woods we use primarily are western Douglas fir and eastern red oak. We have also used eastern hemlock, white pine, western red cedar, and reclaimed historic timbers of various species. Solid timber with wood-to-wood connections is the core of what we do, but we have used engineered timber, glue lam, structural splines, and structural or decorative steel when called for by the client or for engineering considerations.
Our timber framers lay out and hand cut one piece at a time. We have a system for double and triple checking our work before it ships. The cutters travel to the client’s site and erect the frame as well. We raise and install our own work. Therefore we know the whole job is done right and we have the satisfaction of seeing the final result.
