Goodbye summer, hello apples Published on November 9, 2015

clark farm timber frame stand with garden in Carlisle, MAClark farm stand with shopper in MAIt’s the end of the growing season, and the farm stand that we built for the Clark Farms in Carlisle, MA is doing a brisk business.

Clark Farms runs a CSA (community supported agriculture) whereby customers pay for their “share” of the harvest upfront, then receive farm products as they become available.  But the farm also needed a place where retail customers who are not CSA members can stop to pick up farm products. And now they have a handsome farm stand, befitting their historic farm that has been important to the community since the 18th century.

We raised the frame in three days early this summer. The red oak was sourced from Massachusetts and northern Connecticut.  A special pleasure of this project was collaborating on the design with the owner, who is also an architect.

Farm stands all over the state are bursting with apples from the hundreds of orchards in Massachusetts, the birthplace of Johnny Appleseed.
